The Holiday’s Spirit always calls us for baking together, spending time in the kitchen as a family. This desert can be saved in the fridge properly covered for…… as long as it last… ( usually not much ) :) . Its perfect to enjoy with a local organic Costa Rican coffee, a hot cocoa, or a Te Namaste but most important of all, enjoy with your family and friends.
Ingredients
Directions
Slice part of the bread, we will need about 4 slices with the thickness of a regular toast. Spread butter on them and toast on a regular oven. Let them cool off and cut in squares (like croutons)
Chop each dates into 4
Wash the apples. Take off the cord and cut into medium squares. Mix them with the honey, cinnamon, butter, vanilla, dates and bread croutons.
For the crust mix butter, flour and cold water. Divide in 3 parts. Use 2 parts together to make it flat and place it on the pyrex, bottom and sides. Bake for about 15 minutes on a med high temperature. Let it cool off, add a bit of flour on top, and add the apples mix. Then on top place the other part of the crust in strips making any shape you want. Bake on a preheated oven for about 30 minutes on medium high temperature.
For vegan ~ gluten free option you can try the crust with our bread fruit flour and with ½ coconut oil and ½ almond butter, instead of regular dairy butter. Texture is not perfect but is really good too.
Always reheat on a conventional oven for a few minutes before serving IF you stored it in the fridge. Enjoy!!!
